1. What do the letters DKK stand for?
Answer: Deutsch-Kanadischer Kongress
2. When was the DKK created?
Answer: In 1986
3. What was the original purpose of the DKK?
Answer: To be the voice (Sprachrohr) of the German Community in BC, and to be a liaison between the local provincial & municipal governments and the Germans in BC
4. What are the main activities of the DKK in the "new millenium"?
Answer: To offer pension consulting services for Canadian citizens that have a right to receive German pensions; to sponsor and organize workshops & seminars by and for the German community; to support the German Schools in BC; to support and work with other German clubs and organizations; to work with the German Consulate and finally to be the umbrella organization for any other group throughout BC that exists to benefit the German community.
5. What are some bigger projects the DKK is working on?
Answer: Selling T-Shirts; planning the Deutschfest 2005, planning the European Festival, perhaps a Golf Fundraiser?
6. What are some fundraising methods of the DKK?
Answer: The DKK has set up a bank account that people can Direct Deposit in to support the German schools; they organized a Garage Sale Fundraiser to benefit the Children's events - Easter, Lantern Festival, Nikolaus Festival - held throughout the year; they will be selling T-Shirts with the DKK Logo... All membership dues go towards worthy causes...
7. How many members do you have?
Answer: Around 400
8. How do I become a member?
Answer: Pay the dues and you are "in". Single Membership is $30, Family Membership is $45, Clubs & Organizations are $100. Contact Peter Dacher at 604 732-5151 for more info.
9. What are the benefits of membership?
Answer: You may take advantage of any of the services offered by the DKK, you may attend and enjoy all events offered by the DKK, you will receive a copy of the newsletter (Nachrichten) three times a year, and will have an opportunity to stay informed of the latest happening of the German Community, and get involved in the areas that interest you. Once a year you will have the opportunity to run as a member of the Board, or you can join a committee and volunteer your time, money, skills or products. As a member of the Board, you will get the opportunity to receive a 25% discount on an ad in the newsletter.
10. What are the regular ad fees?
Answer: 1 Full Page Ad is $150; 1/2 Page Ad is $85; 1/4 Page Ad is $44; 1/8 Page Ad is $25; Board Members get 25% off of these rates.
11. How Can I Support the DKK?
Answer: Become a member, join a committee (fundraising, publicity, event volunteer etc.) attend regularly monthly meetings; inform your friends and families about us, donate time, money, skills and products to help us complete our tasks
12. What are some membership goals for 2004?
Answer: Increase membership of the DKK up to 1000 (there are 70,000 Germans living in the Lower Mainland); involve parents and children in the DKK, increase the number of younger (under age 40) members, involve Germans who just moved here from Germany, and work to unite the German Community into a cohesive, harmonious unit.
